I want to ask you a question

What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light. Matthew 10:27

I want to ask you a question.

Some Background

I attend the most wonderful Sunday School class, and last Sunday we took a close look at the birth of Jesus as told in the Book of Matthew. If you recall, Joseph is betrothed to Mary when she tells him that she is pregnant … but Joseph knows the baby can’t be his.  At the time it was Jewish culture to stone a woman who was pregnant out of wedlock, but Matthew says that Joseph was a “just and righteous man”, so instead of publicly condemning Mary he was going to send her away and quietly divorce her … until God told him otherwise.

Cogitating on all this, my class discussed each detail of the story morphing at last into the point of this post. “Does God still talk to His people in dreams?”  No conclusion was reached, though several posits were offered.  Nevertheless, it is a GOOD question.

Here’s a better one:  Have YOU ever  had a dream where God gave you a message just for you?

Joseph believed so strongly that his dream came from God that he took action … a strong indication that Joseph believed God’s message to him was real.  Why after the first dream, Joseph defied convention and dismissed his pride because he knew he had heard from God.

Later, after another dream, Joseph gets out  of bed, wakes up Jesus and Mary, throws them on a donkey in the dark, gets them the heck out of Bethlehem, and heads for Egypt because he knows, that he knows, that he knows that God Himself told him exactly what to do.
Matthew 10:27 says, “What happens in the dark, share in the light.  What you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim from the mountaintops!”
Again, has God given you instruction and/or information in a dream, and if so what did you do about it?
