Harry Truman and the Truman Committee (video)
In a time when lots of people doubt the honesty of most politicians, it is comforting to know that there was at one time, a candid, transparent, truthful senator named Harry S. Truman. This feisty political leader from Missouri worked hard to take care of the American people's money, and one of the ways he did that was to investigate the billions of dollars Congress had to quickly pour into investments, companies and committees during the Second Word War. Truman discovered that many recipients of these U.S. war-time dollars were not always honest, effective, or efficient, so Truman and The Truman Committee did what it took to fix things, and in the process saved our country billions. This unflashy, humble, simple, honest politician, who never shouted, "Look at me! Look at me!" would be an refreshing anomaly today.
